10-Minute Restaurant-Style Sambar Recipe

Sambar is a South Indian classic that pairs perfectly with idli, vada, dosa, and uttapam. It's a comforting dish many of us love. Here's a simple, restaurant-style sambar recipe that you can make in just 10 minutes.

1. Use a Pressure Cooker

Start by heating oil in a pressure cooker. Add mustard seeds, cumin & a pinch of hing. Let them splutter, then add methi seeds & curry leaves, stirring gently on a low flame.

2. Saute Onion and Tomato

Next, add chopped onion, green chilli, and tomato. Saute until the tomato softens. Season with salt and let it cook on a low flame for a few minutes.

3. Add the Vegetables

Once the tomato has softened, add your choice of vegetables. Mix everything together well.

4. Add Spices and Dal

Stir in turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and sambar masala. Add soaked arhar dal and enough water to cover the mixture. o add tamarind  paste for that tangy flavour.

5. Wait for the Whistle

Choose dishes that can be cooked quickly. Opt for recipes that are simple and require fewer techniques and save time in the kitchen.

6. Make the Tadka

Heat oil in a pan and add whole red chilli and curry leaves. Pour the tadka over the sambar, garnish with fresh coriander leaves, and serve hot.
