Storing food on the kitchen countertop might seem convenient, but it can lead to spoilage due to storage conditions. Here are five foods that should never be left out.

1. Potatoes

Potatoes need a cool, dark place to stay fresh. Storing them on the countertop exposes them to light, leading to sprouting and spoiling more quickly.

2. Onions

Onions release moisture and gases when left out, leading to quicker spoilage. Keep them in a well-ventilated, dark spot away from potatoes.

3. Bread

Leaving bread on the counter can cause it to become stale or mouldy. Store it in an airtight container or freeze it for longer freshness.

4. Tomatoes

Tomatoes lose their texture and ripen too fast on countertops. Store them at room temperature until ripe, and then store them in the fridge.
