5 Mistakes To Avoid While Cooking Rice

1. Not Rinsing

Rice, when unrinsed, retains extra surface starch that can cause it to become too sticky. To avoid this, rinse rice at least 3-4 times under cold water.

2. Ratio Neglect

Use the correct water-to-rice ratio while cooking rice. Too much water can lead to mushy rice while too little water may result in undercooked rice.

3. Same Cooking Method

White and brown rice require different cooking times. White rice cooks fast while brown rice takes time. This can lead to uneven cooking.

4. Using High Heat

Cooking rice takes time and turning up the heat would not speed up the process. It could lead to undercooked or burnt rice.

5. Skipping Rest Time

Let the rice sit for 5-10 minutes after it's cooked. Not letting it sit can compromise the final texture and taste of your cooked rice.
