Basil leaves (tulsi) impart herby and peppery flavour to dishes. However, storing it for prolonged freshness can be challenging. Here are 5 easy ways to do it.

Trim stems of basil leaves and place them in a jar with water. Cover with a plastic bag and keep it at room temperature. Change the water every second day.

Wrap the basil leaves in a damp paper towel and place them in an airtight container. Store it in the fridge to keep them hydrated and fresh for long.

Wash and dry basil leaves, freeze them on a flat sheet, and then put them in a ziplock bag. You can also freeze the leaves in an ice tray with water.

Blend fresh basil leaves with olive oil, garlic, walnuts to make pesto. Store in the fridge for up to one week or freeze in an ice tray for longer storage.

In a dark, ventilated place, hang basil bunches upside down. Once dry, crumble the leaves and store them in an airtight container away from sunlight.
