Winter greens are a must-have, but they need proper cleaning before you dig in. Here's how you can do it:

Start by washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Clean hands mean clean greens.

Rinse greens like spinach, lettuce, and kale under cold running water. Hot water can wilt them instantly, so stick to cold.

For veggies like cabbage or lettuce, peel off the outermost leaves. Toss any wilted, discolored, or rotten ones.

Place your greens in a colander, rinse thoroughly, and let the water drain. Pat them dry with a paper towel or kitchen cloth.

For extra muddy or sandy greens, soak them in a bowl of cold water for a few minutes before rinsing. This helps loosen any stuck dirt.

If you've got one, a salad spinner is great for removing excess water after rinsing. It keeps your greens fresher for longer.

Wrap the greens in a clean paper towel or kitchen cloth, put them in a sealed bag, and store in the fridge. Use them within a week for maximum freshness.
