Select plump firm cherries with smooth and shiny skins. Avoid any cherry that is sticky or soft with brown spots or broken skin.

Cherries with stems attached spoil less rapidly as compared to those without stems. Look for fresh green stems rather than dried-out ones.

Since cherries do not ripen further once they are plucked, so always pick the red ones and avoid small, poorly coloured or hard cherries.

Once bought, store the cherries in the refrigerator by covering them with a plastic wrap for up to three days.
