Pesto is a flavourful sauce that originated in Genoa, Italy. It is perfect to put on pasta, or sandwiches or use it as a dip. Here's how you can make pesto sauce at home.

You will need – fresh basil leaves, grated Parmesan cheese, olive oil, walnuts (or pine nuts), garlic cloves, salt and pepper.

Wash the fresh basil under cold water and pat them dry thoroughly. Mince the garlic cloves finely to ensure even distribution in the pesto sauce.

In a pan over medium heat, toast the walnuts until they turn golden brown. Keep stirring frequently, as it will increase its richness and nutty flavour.

In a food processor, add fresh basil leaves and toasted walnuts. Grind the ingredients a couple of times until they are finely chopped.

Add minced garlic and grated Parmesan cheese to the food processor. Pulse them several times and then slowly add olive oil to make it smooth.

Taste and season your pesto with salt and pepper as needed. Pulse a few more times to combine ingredients, and enjoy!
