How To Make Maharashtrian Batata Bhaji

Maharashtrian Batata Bhaji or Batatyachi Bhaji is a flavourful preparation of potatoes (a type of aloo sabzi). This is a dry (sookha) dish typically paired with puris or chapatis.

Batata Bhaji is a delicious delight that can be easily made at home. Ready in around 30 minutes, it's a great option for a tiffin meal/packed lunch. Here's the recipe:

3-4 potatoes
1 onion, finely sliced
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
2 green chillies, slit
1/2 cup coriander leaves, chopped
1 sprig curry leaves
1 tsp lemon juice

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1/4 tsp hing
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
Salt to taste
2 tbsp oil

INGREDIENTS (Continued):

STEP 1

Boil and peel the potatoes. Cut into cubes and set aside. Chop the other listed ingredients as mentioned and keep them ready.

STEP 2

Heat oil in a kadhai. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, hing, curry leaves and garlic. Saute for 10-15 seconds.

Add onions and cook until translucent. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, 1 tsp salt (or to taste) and stir for a few seconds.

Add potatoes and combine well. Cover and let it cook for a minute. Later, top with lime juice and coriander leaves. Mix and serve hot with puris or rotis.
