Neer chutney is a smooth and delicious chutney that pairs perfectly with idli. With this recipe, you can get the restaurant touch in your chutney without much hassle.

½ cup roasted gram dal
3 tbsp grated coconut
3-4 green chillies
2 garlic cloves
1-inch ginger
1 small piece of tamarind
1 cup coriander leaves
1 tsp salt
Water

2 tsp oil
½ tsp mustard seeds
½ tsp split urad dal
1 dry red chilli
4-5 curry leaves

In a blender, add roasted gram dal, grated coconut, green chillies, garlic, ginger, tamarind, coriander and salt. Blend with water for a fine paste.

Transfer the ground paste into a bowl. Add a little bit more water to achieve a thin, flowing consistency. Make sure to stir well.

In a pan, heat some oil. Add mustard seeds and let them crackle. Now add urad dal, dry red chilli, and curry leaves. Fry for a few seconds.

Pour this tempering over the chutney and mix. Serve this Neer chutney with idli, dosa, or vada for a perfect South Indian indulgence.
