If you are a beginner, it is best to use the wooden disposable chopsticks. These provide a better grip for practice before you can move to the metallic ones.

First, hold one chopstick like a pencil between your thumb and index finger. Hold closer to the thicker end of the chopstick.

Hold the second chopstick in the gap between your thumb and pointer finger. Rest it on the edge of your ring finger. The chopsticks should be parallel.

Hold the lower stick steady and move only the upper stick. Keep some space between the sticks to clasp the food.
