Here are some super handy tips to help you pick a good watermelon this season. These simple hacks actually work.

Always pick up the watermelon and feel how heavy it is. A ripe watermelon should feel heavy for its size. That means it is full of water & is more likely to be sweet & juicy.

Give the watermelon a good tap with your hand. If it makes a deep, hollow sound, that usually means it is ripe and packed with flavour. It is one of the easiest ways to test it on the spot.

Take a proper look at the watermelon's skin. If the peel is dark green and feels a bit rough to touch, then chances are the fruit is sweet and ready to eat. Avoid ones with a shiny surface.

If you spot any holes, there is a chance that insects or worms have made their way in. Also, stay away from fruits with cracks, strange cuts, or odd-looking marks. They are best left behind.

Avoid going for watermelon pieces that are already cut. They spoil quickly and might carry bacteria, especially in the heat. Whole watermelons are always a safer and fresher bet.
