How To Make Goan-Style Rava Fried Fish

The fish is marinated in a mix of basic spices and coated with semolina (sooji/rava) before being shallow-fried. The coating is crisp yet light, which strikes a good balance.

INGREDIENTS

2 kingfish slices/fillets
1 tsp ginger garlic paste
½ tsp each turmeric & chilli powder
1 ½ tsp salt
1 tbsp lime juice/vinegar
½ cup rava
1 tbsp rice flour
Oil for pan-frying

STEP 1

Wash the fish slices and pat them dry to remove excess moisture. Spread 1 tsp salt over them on both sides.

STEP 2

Combine turmeric powder, chilli powder, ginger garlic paste and lemon juice/vinegar in a bowl to make a paste. Mix well.

STEP 3

Use your fingers to apply the paste to the fish slices. Coat both sides and keep aside for marination for at least an hour.

STEP 4

Heat around 2 tbsp oil on a non-stick pan. Place the marinated fish slices gently on top. Let them cook on medium heat for around 5 minutes and then flip.

Pan-fry the fish for around 5 minutes on the other side too. Serve the rava fried fish as a starter or side dish with rice, curry and vegetable preparations.
