How To Make Gujarati Sookhi Moong Dal

This Gujarati moong dal recipe pairs well with rice and kadhi. It is wholesome and flavourful. Here's how you can easily make Mag Ni Chutti Dal at home:

INGREDIENTS

1 cup yellow moong
1 tsp cumin seeds
½ tsp mustard seeds
2 tbsp ghee
¼ tsp hing (asafoetida)
1 tsp haldi
½ tsp red chilli powder
½ tsp garam masala (optional)

2 green chillies, finely chopped
2 dried red chillies
1 sprig curry leaves
Salt to taste
1 tbsp coriander leaves for garnish

INGREDIENTS

STEP 1

Wash and soak the yellow moong for an hour. Later, drain the water and set the dal aside.

STEP 2

In a kadhai, heat the ghee and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, hing, curry leaves, dried red chillies and green chillies.

STEP 3

Next, add the haldi, salt, chilli powder and dal to the kadhai. Mix well and then pour in 1 ½ cups of water. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes.

Later, open the vessel and top the dal with garam masala and chopped coriander leaves. Enjoy hot! This moong dal dish can also be a great addition to a Gujarati thali.
