Ashtami and Navami mark the end of Navratri festivities. People observe Kanjak puja on these days and also break their 9-day-long fast.

The prasad for Kanjak puja includes a delicious combo of kala chana, sooji halwa and puris. Here is how to make yummy kala chana for this festival:

Pre-soak Kala chana overnight or for at least 6 to 8 hrs. Wash it 2-3 times with water.

Pressure cook the chana with water, anardana powder, and salt for 20-25 minutes. Once done, strain the chana. Save the chana stock.

Now take a kadai, add oil, temper with cumin seeds and hing, and smashed ginger and green chilli.

Add a masala slurry of chana stock water, ground cumin, coriander and red chilli.

Next, add the cooked kala chana and slowly add the stock water.
