How To Make Healthy Green Chana Pulao

Green chana pulao is the ultimate winter comfort food. Made with chholia (green gram), this dish is loaded with protein, fibre, and all the good stuff your body needs during the chilly months. If you haven't tried it yet, now's your chance.

Ingredients:

2 cups basmati rice,1 cup green gram (chholia), 1 onion (chopped), 1 tomato (chopped), 1 tsp cumin seeds, 5 cloves

 2 small cardamoms, , 1 big cardamom, 2 bay leaves, 1/2 tsp red chilli powder, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp biryani masala, 3 tbsp oil, Salt to taste

Step-1

Heat oil in a pressure cooker and toss in the cumin seeds along with all the whole spices (cardamoms, cloves, and bay leaves). Let them sizzle for a few seconds.

Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown. Once done, throw in the tomatoes and cook them down until they're soft and mushy.

Now, stir in the green gram. Sprinkle red chilli powder, turmeric, coriander, and biryani masala over it. Give it a good mix to coat everything in the spices.

Add the soaked basmati rice and gently stir everything together. Pour in one glass of water (you might need to tweak this depending on your rice).

Season with salt, a splash of lemon juice, and a handful of fresh coriander. For a richer taste, add a spoonful of desi ghee. Trust us, it's worth it.

Close the pressure cooker lid. Let it cook for one whistle, then reduce the flame and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes.

Turn off the heat and let the pressure release naturally. Fluff the pulao with a fork and transfer it to a serving bowl.
