How To Make Hilsa Fish Curry

Hilsa fish curry, or ilish machher jhol, is a classic Bengali dish that's often served on special occasions and during festivals.

While Hilsa is easily available in West Bengal, you can find it in most parts of India throughout the year. If you're a fan of fish curries, this recipe is a must-try!

Ingredients:

Hilsa fish, 1 tsp kalonji (black cumin seeds), 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 2-4 green chillies, 1 Tbsp mustard oil, Salt to taste

Step-1

Shallow-fry the Hilsa pieces until they're golden brown. Set them aside.

Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan and toss in 1 teaspoon of black cumin seeds. Let them sizzle for a few seconds.

Add 1 cup of water, 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder, and salt to taste. Let the water come to a boil.

Gently add the fried Hilsa pieces to the pan. Split the green chillies in half and drop them in. Let it cook for about 2 minutes.
