How To Make Kollu Rasam

Kollu Rasam is a nutritious South Indian dish known for it's unique flavour. Here's a simple recipe for Kollu Rasam that you must try.

Ingredients For The Rasam

 1 cup horse gram
1 medium tomato
1-2 green chillies
1tbsp tamarind paste
4 cups water
Salt to taste
Fresh coriander leaves

Ingredients For The Rasam Powder

1tbsp cumin seeds
1tbsp black pepper 
2-3 dried red chillies
 1tbsp turmeric powder
1tbsp mustard seeds
1spring curry leaves

Dry roast the horse gram until slightly browned. Soak in water for a few hours, then cook till it gets soft. Drain and mash lightly.

To prepare rasam powder, roast cumin seeds, black pepper and dried chillies. Now, grind to a coarse powder.

In a pot, combine the tomatoes, green chillies, mashed horse gram, tamarind paste, and rasam powder.
Add water and salt and simmer for 5- 10 mins.

Step 3

Take a small pan to heat oil. Add mustard seeds and curry leaves, and let them splutter. Pour this tempering over the rasam.

Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
Serve hot with steamed rice or as a soup. Enjoy your kollu rasam!
