How to make pineapple rasam

Pineapple rasam is a special variation of South Indian favourite- rasam! The addition of juicy pineapple adds flavour and taste to the recipe.

Ingredients of Pineapple Rasam

  • 1/2 Cup Tuvar dal
  • 1 cup Coarsely chopped pineapple
  • 1 large Coarsely chopped tomato
  • 5-10 Curry Leaves
  • 1 tbsp Mustard Seeds
  • 2 tsp Jeera
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper
  • 3-4 Garlic cloves
  • Dried red chilly
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • Salt as required
  • Rasam powder (Optional)

How to Make Pineapple Rasam

First add the tuvar dal, pinch of haldi and salt in a cooker and cook for 4-5 whistles. Once cooked, take it out mash it properly and let it sit.

Coarsely grind jeera, black pepper, garlic and keep that aside.

Make a fine puree out of 80% of the chopped pineapples, leave some for later.

Coarsely grind tomatoes and keep it aside.

Now in a pan, heat some oil and add mustard seeds and let them crackle.

Add red chilli, curry leaves and a pinch of asafoetida.

Now add grinded jeera, black pepper and garlic. Mix everything and cook for a min.

Add the roughly grinded tomatoes and cook till they are soft.
9.
Now add the pineapple puree, mix everything well and add the mashed dal too.
10.
Add one and a half cup of water, bring it to a boil and then add the remaining pineapple cubes.
11.
Garnish with coriander, serve and enjoy this hot and tangy rasam.

Recipe Notes

You can add the Rasam powder now but it is optional.
