Mulled wine is a warm alcoholic beverage, perfect for winter. It is best enjoyed during Christmas and New Year festivities. Make comforting mulled wine at home with this easy recipe.

1 Orange
60 gms Castor sugar
5 Whole cloves
1 Cinnamon stick
3 Bay leaves
1 tsp Vanilla essence
1 Red wine bottle

Take a large saucepan and add castor sugar, cloves, cinnamon stick and bay leaves.

Slice one orange into rounds and add these to the pan. You can remove the peels if you want a less bitter beverage.

Add vanilla essence and stir in just enough red wine to cover the sugar. Turn the stove to medium heat.

Let this simmer until the sugar has completely dissolved into the red wine. Now, add the rest of the wine.

Reduce heat to medium-low and cook. Stir occasionally for about 10 minutes, until fragrant and slightly reduced.

Your mulled wine is ready to be served. Garnish with orange slices and cinnamon sticks.
