Winter is all about enjoying yummy homemade halwa. Here is a gem from Sindhi cuisine. Give this urad dal halwa a try and you might forget moong dal or gajar ka halwa.

1/4 cup urad dal, 2 cups dry fruits and nuts (dry dates, almonds, walnuts, cashew, pistachio etc), 1 cup desiccated coconut.

Sugar (as per taste), 3-4 teaspoons poppy seeds, 500ml milk, half teaspoon cardamom powder, half cup mawa, 2-3 tablespoons ghee.

Soak the dal overnight. In the morning, grind it into a paste and then roast the paste with ghee till it becomes dark golden.

Now boil milk and add sugar, poppy seeds, mawa and cardamom powder. Mix well till the milk thickens.

Next, lower the flame and add chopped dried fruits and nuts. Stir continuously.

Add desiccated coconut and stir till the mix turns heavy and thick.

Finally, add the remaining ghee to the dish and mix it all. Once ready, serve and enjoy.
