How To Make Spicy Onion Chutney

This spicy onion chutney recipe will seriously level up your meal with its bold, punchy twist. Just follow this step-by-step guide.

Ingredients:

3 onions, chopped
¼ tsp coriander seeds
¼ tsp cumin (jeera)
¼ tsp fennel seed (saunf)
¼ tsp fenugreek seeds (methi)
1 tbsp chana dal
½ tbsp urad dal
5-6 garlic cloves

Ingredients:

1 tsp tamarind paste
5-6 curry leaves
½ tsp red chilli powder
¼ tsp turmeric
1 tbsp oil
Salt to taste

Step-1

Start by heating some oil in a pan. Add chana dal, urad dal, cumin, mustard seeds, fennel seed, curry leaves, garlic, and chopped onions. Keep it on medium flame.

Step-2

Sauté the mix till the onions turn soft and slightly golden. Add a dry red chillies & toast them nicely in the mix. Add salt and tamarind paste at this point.

Once cooked, switch off the heat and let the mix cool completely. Transfer it to a blender with a bit of water and blend it all into a smooth chutney paste.

In the same pan, heat some more oil. Add mustard seeds, saunf, jeera, urad dal, kalonji, a pinch of heeng, curry leaves, Kashmiri red chilli powder, and turmeric.

Pour the blended chutney paste into this sizzling tadka. Cook everything together till the oil starts to separate. Serve it with idli, dosa, or paratha.
