Many food lovers use store-bought rice paper for desserts these days. But there is one Indian sweet that has used rice paper for generations, Pootharekulu.

Pootharekulu is a traditional sweet from Andhra Pradesh-served during festivals, religious events, and weddings across the region.

It is made of thin rice sheets layered with jaggery, ghee, and dry fruits. These sheets are made by grinding rice and water for 2 hours.

Pootharekulu is an experience. It feels like you are biting into paper, but then the sweetness, crunch, and richness melt in your mouth.
This sweet comes from Atreyapuram Village in Andhra Pradesh. Women make the sweets while the men usually handle the distribution part.
