Burani Raita is a traditional Hyderabadi side dish. It's a creamy yoghurt-based treat often served with biryani or other rich, spiced dishes to balance out the heat.
Unlike plain raita, it has a distinctive flavour of garlic, which makes it punchier and aromatic. Here's an easy recipe for Burani Raita:
1 cup thick dahi
3-4 garlic cloves, crushed or finely minced
1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
Coriander or mint leaves, finely chopped

Whisk the dahi until smooth and creamy. If it's too thick, add 1–2 tablespoons of chilled water.
Stir in crushed garlic, roasted cumin powder, and salt. Mix well so the garlic is incorporated properly.
Taste to check the balance of salt and spice. Sprinkle red chilli powder on top and garnish with a few coriander or mint leaves.
Let it sit in the fridge for 15-20 minutes before serving. Enjoy burani raita with Hyderabadi biryani, kebabs, pulao, or spicy curries.
