½ cup rice
½ cup arhar (toor) dal
3 cups water
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 tablespoon ghee or oil
Salt to taste1 small chopped tomato
1 small chopped carrot or peas (optional)

Wash the rice and arhar dal well and soak them together for about 10 minutes.

Heat ghee in a pressure cooker and add cumin seeds; let them crackle.

Add the chopped tomato and optional vegetables; sauté for 1–2 minutes.
