Bafat Masala Recipe: Bafat Masala is a traditional spice mix used for flavouring certain Mangalorean and Goan delicacies. This aromatic blend of spices is especially featured in recipes for non-vegetarian curries and gravies. You can also use it for stir-fry dishes.

Ingredients of Bafat Masala
- 10-15 Kashmiri red chillies
- 2 tbsp red chilli powder (pungent)/ 10 Byadgi chillies
- 1 tbsp turmeric powder
- 3 tbsp coriander seeds
- 2 tbsp cumin seeds
- 1 tbsp whole black peppercorns
- 4-inch cinnamon stick
- 2 tsp cloves
- 4 bay leaves
How to Make Bafat Masala

In a thick-bottomed pan on low flame, dry roast the coriander seeds, cumin seeds and Kashmiri red chillies.

Next, add cinnamon sticks, cloves, peppercorns, cardamoms and bay leaves. Saute together for another minute or so.

Turn off the heat and mix in the chilli powder and turmeric powder.

Allow the mixture to cool and then grind to form a fine powder. Store this masala in an airtight container kept in a cool, dry place.
