Tofu Tikka Masala is an easy and flavourful vegan recipe that can be enjoyed with flatbreads and rice.

Ingredients of Tofu Tikka Masala

  • 500 gms Tofu
  • 1/2 cup Dairy-free yoghurt
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 tbsp Ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp Cumin powder
  • 2 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 2 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 2 tsp Garam Masala
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder
  • to taste Salt
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 large Onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric
  • 3 medium Tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1 cup Coconut Milk
  • 1/2 cup Coriander Leaves, chopped

How to Make Tofu Tikka Masala

Take a tofu brick and press it for at least 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture. This will ensure that the tofu is extra firm. Cut it into small cubes.

Transfer the cubes to a bowl and add vegan yoghurt. Now add lemon juice and spices – cumin powder, red chilli powder, garam masala, Kashmiri red chilli powder, and salt – to the tofu pieces and mix well. Let the marinated tofu sit for at least 1 hour.

In the meantime, prepare the curry. Take a pan and heat some oil in it. Once heated, add chopped onion and ginger-garlic paste. Saute till it becomes translucent and the ginger garlic paste loses its raw smell.

Add chopped tomatoes along with other spices – salt, garam masala, turmeric powder, cumin powder, red chilli powder, and coriander powder – and mix so that all the ingredients have combined well. Cover the lid of the pan so that the tomatoes become mushy.

Once done, remove the mixture from the pan and add it to a blender. Let it cool and then make a smooth paste out of it. Keep it aside.

In the same pan, add some oil and marinated tofu and cook until it becomes brown in colour.

Once cooked, add the masala paste in it and mix so that all the ingredients are combined well. At this point, add water and adjust spices as per your preference. Cook until the gravy thickens.

Now add coconut milk and let the gravy cook on a simmer for 10 minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves and your Tofu Tikka Masala is ready to serve!
