About Bengali Style Chana Dal Recipe: A delicious lentil dish cooked with Bengal gram or chana dal, this dish of dal is flavored with coconut, ghee and an assortment of whole spices. Bengali Style chana dal tastes mildly spicy and packed with nutrition since it is a helpful source of zinc, folate, calcium, protein and is low in fat content. Once the chana dal is cooked in the pressure cooker it only takes a few minutes to prepare the whole dish. Serve it with steamed rice or just chapatis for a humble weeknight dinner.

Ingredients of Bengali Style Chana Dal

  • 1 Cup chana Dal
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • 1/2 cup coconut, chopped
  • 1 sticks cinnamon
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • 1 Clove
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • A pinch of sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • For Tadka
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 2 Cloves
  • 1 Cinnamon sticks
  • 4 Cardamom
  • 2 Whole red chilli

How to Make Bengali Style Chana Dal

1.
Soak a cup of chana dal for about ten minutes.

Take ghee in a pan and add chopped coconut to it.
3.
Pan fry coconut till golden brown.
4.
Take soaked chana dal in a pressure cooker.
5.
Add cinnamon, clove, bay leaf, raisins, fried coconut, turmeric, salt and sugar to the cooker.

Mix thoroughly and add water.
7.
Pressure cook it.

Prepare Tadka:

1.
Take ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds, bay leaves, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom and red chilli whole.
2.
Saute them thoroughly with the ghee.
3.
Pour it over the cooked dal in the pressure cooker. Mix well.
4.
Serve the Bengali Style Chana Dal hot with garnishing of chopped and fried coconut.
