McDonald's is changing its menu for Shravan, and this significant offering has made Harsh Goenka point out how global brands have to adapt to Indian consumers. In a recent post on X, Goenka shared the McDonald's Shravan Specials Menu and wrote, "Earlier, Kellogg's. Now, McDonald's. Global brands are learning an important lesson that in India, you ultimately have to adapt to the whims of the Indian consumer."

What's On The Shravan Menu?

McDonald's has introduced special options for people following Shravan fasting and dietary restrictions.

The menu includes:

  • Signature 7 Veggies Burger
  • McAloo Tikki NONG Burger, without onion and garlic
  • Unsalted Fries
  • Strawberry Shake
  • Chocolate Shake
  • Special Shravan combos and pairings

During this auspicious month, many people follow specific food rules, like avoiding non-vegetarian food, onion, garlic and regular table salt. Some people also follow fasting-specific diets. That means the usual burger-and-fries menu may not work for everyone. Hence, McDonald's created options that fit these preferences and has been offering them since 2024.

The Internet Had Thoughts

Harsh Goenka's post quickly turned into a conversation about how international brands adapt to India. One person called it the perfect example of "Think global. Act local." Another said, "When in India, do as the Indians do!"

Some users, however, felt that the discussion should go beyond Shravan. One commenter said offering satvik food as a regular option, not only saved for fasting months, would be a good move.

One user even pointed out that Domino's has been offering kuttu atta pizza since 2015, adding that it can also work for Navratri fasting. Another commenter compared McDonald's approach in India with its experience in the Philippines, saying the brand has had to adapt to local tastes there too.

McDonald's may be a global fast-food chain, but in India, its menu has to understand the Indian plate.
