Ingredients of Red Velvet Cake

  • For dry ingredients:
  • 2 cups Cake flour
  • 2 tbsp Cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tbsp White vinegar
  • 2 tsp Red food colour
  • 2 tsp Vanilla essence
  • 1 tsp Baking soda
  • For wet ingredients:
  • Cream cheese frosting
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup Softened butter
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 3 Eggs
  • For cream cheese frosting:
  • 300 gms Cream cheese
  • 300 gms Sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt

How to Make Red Velvet Cake

Preheat the oven on 180 degree Celsius for 15 minutes.

Combine all the dry ingredients and pass through sieve. Keep it aside.

With a electric hand mixer, beat the butter and sugar together on medium speed. Add the eggs, one at a time and keep mixing till it turns fluffy. Then add the remaining wet ingredients and beat on slow speed till well combined.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Divide the batter into two parts and bake till done. Once cooled down, scrape of the top layer to even the top surface. Crumble the scrape to use later. Cut both the cake into 2 parts to make 4 layers.

Make cream cheese frosting by beating all the ingredients together with the hand mixer. Layer in between the cakes, on the top and on all the sides. Paste the crumbled cake layer on all sides. Decorate the cake as per your preference.
