Sweet corn is a fixture among street snacks available across India. The chaat made from boiled corn kernels is particularly famous during monsoons. However, you will see stalls selling sweet corn scattered across train stations, beaches, markets and even in malls, throughout the year. Cups of steaming hot corn make for delicious snacks at any time of the day. You will typically find these cups selling for as low a price as INR 20 or 30 per serving and you are very likely to spot eager kids and even hungry adults crowding around sweet corn carts in busy Indian marketplaces and shopping complexes. Sweet corn carts can be recognised by their characteristic red and yellow banners.

They all generally have two hot boxes containing either plain sweet corn or spicy masala sweet corn. Laced with oodles of butter and spiced with a special spice mix, this corn chaat is an ideal on-the-go snack for anyone feeling hungry while commuting. This street-style sweet corn chaat can be very easily prepared at home as well. All you need is boiled corn kernel and just two commonly available spices namely roasted cumin (jeera powder) and chaat masala (you can either use the packaged one or homemade one). To make this chaat spicy, you may also add the Kashmiri red chilli powder that is also easily available and is usually present in your spice box. Add some salt and optionally, lemon juice to make it a little tangy and voila! This sweet corn chaat is sure to be a hit with everyone at home.
