For a city that loves its dal makhani and butter chicken, it could prove be a tough feat for a stand-alone vegan cafe to find enough takers. But contrary to popular belief, a lot of Delhiites are not only warming up to veganism, but also willing to explore new vegan-based dishes and outlets. Nut & Bowls, a chic cafe nestled in the lanes of GK 2, M block Market is proof! Having made its name in the market for its Hundred per cent vegan products, Nut & Bowls opened its flagship outlet in Delhi in March 2019. They are looking to expand their chain and also revamp their whole menu with several new meat and dairy-free additions soon.

Delhi's first raw vegan cafe and juice bar, Nuts & Bowls is a cosy cafe with soothing aesthetics. Dressed in hues of  pleasant pinks and tropical greens, the vegan cafe is an ideal place to hang out after a long day at work, or catch up for breakfast dates. Coming to food, the menu is deliciously diverse and flavourful. From salads, sandwiches, pastas, Buddha bowls, pancakes, Instagrammable smoothie bowls to cheesecakes, the vegan fare in this quaint little cafe is sure to take you by surprise.

We tried their avocado toast; smashed avocados served on top of grilled toast is an ideal snack to pair with morning tea or coffee. Next we chomped on the mac and cheese; the special vegan version is made creamy and saucy with help of mushrooms or cashew paste. The macaroni is topped with herbs and fresh veggies.

One should also not miss their loaded smoothie bowls; we tried their Acai bowl. Delectable and antioxidant-rich Acai berries blended with bananas, blueberries, dates, in-house nut milk, topped with granola, pomegranates, chia seeds, bananas, raspberries and raw chocolate. A delightful burst of health and flavour, Acai bowl is a must-try at Nut & Bowls.

If you are looking for wholesome lunch options, you can opt for their satiating Buddha bowls. We tried our hands at the protein bowl. Boiled chickpeas, brown rice, slow-roasted broccoli, caramelised onions, served with roasted carrots, green peas, chickpea falafel, with French dressing, hummus and mint mayonnaise. Protein helps you feel full for a longer spell and keeps you from bingeing. The best part about the dish here is the freshness and the crunch that is retained by the veggies. They also cook their brown rice very well. The Buddha bowl fills you up, but interestingly, you never feel bloated.

Another unique dish you can try here are the zoodles, or zucchini noodles in basil pesto sauce. The crunchy and crispy noodles are tossed in vegan sauce and served with veggies and herbs. This fibre-rich and nutrient-dense dish won us over. If you are not a fan of pesto and find it too overpowering, you can opt for other mellower sauces as well.

Pancake lovers are sure to enjoy the range of pancakes here. We were served the delicious raw-tella pancakes. Soft and crispy pancakes slathered over with in-house chocolate hazelnut spread and berries.

One should also not miss their vegan cappuccino, which is made with almond milk. The warm and soothing beverage is a treat to the soul.
