For those casual pyjama parties, we'd have beer chilling in our refrigerators. Beer cans adorn the table while we're all pumped for a movie or game night. Catching up with a friend over a quick beer has now become fashionable. It wouldn't be wrong to say that beer has easily invaded our lives and filled it with frothy freshness.Back in 2007, two beer enthusiasts decided to dedicate a day to celebrate the global love for beer. Jesse Avshalomov and Evan Hamilton founded the 'International Beer Day' for the love of their favourite beverage. "A few years back a group of friends and I decided that there needed to be a day in celebration of all things beer, a day in thanks to the people who produce and provide our favorite beverage. So we invented International Beer Day, convinced our local bar to celebrate, made a little website for it, gave thanks to the beer industry, and had a good-ol' time." says Jesse Avshalomov on their official website. Before you crack a cold one, here are few quick tips that you should keep in mind while cooking with beer -
  • After adding beer, do not boil for too long else it will lose its delicate aroma. The more it is cooked, the stronger will be the flavour
  • Use wheat beers for chicken and seafood
  • Beer tenderizes meats and is great as a marinade. Use a dark beer for marinades. They do not have much acidity hence you can marinate for longer
  • Light beers are great for battered fried foods
  • Since beer is bitter due to presence of hops, pair it with sweet foods like onions, carrots, corn etc
  • Most importantly, never cook with a beer that you wouldn't like to drink
