Now, Haldiram's Products Under Scanner in Maharashtra

Maharashtra government has asked its health regulator to check samples of Haldiram's packaged snacks to find if they are fit for human consumption. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been asked to collect packaged food samples of the Nagpur-based leading domestic snack-maker from all over the state. This is after reports emerged of its products getting banned in the US.Minister of State for FDA, Vidya Thakur said she has written to the FDA Commissioner Harshdeep Kamble regarding the collection of samples and their lab testing. She has also sought a report from the FDA at the earliest. The decision was taken in view of reports that Haldiram's packaged products had been banned in USA as pesticides and Salmonella bacteria were found in them, she said.(US Food Security Rejects Indian Snacks: Deem Most of Them Unfit for Consumption)"This is a very serious matter. Since Haldiram's products are manufactured in the state and consumed by a large number of people, it is necessary to find out if the snacks are fit for human consumption," Thakur stated in the letter. Haldiram's could not be immediately contacted for comments on the issue.The decision to check Haldiram's products was prompted in the wake of the Maggi noodles controversy.
