Fast-food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) enjoys a unique fan following across the world. Whether it's the signature fried chicken or the chicken wings, there are many dishes to choose from at the restaurant. Ardent lovers of KFC will go to any lengths to get hold of their favourite treats from the restaurant. However, can you imagine the love for the fast-food being so extreme that people try to smuggle it in lockdown? Two men in New Zealand were caught by police with a stash of KFC takeaway in their car trunk.
According to a press release by the New Zealand police, the officers had spotted a suspicious-looking vehicle near Auckland's southern borders. They were trying to get into Auckland with $100,000 cash and a car trunk full of KFC takeaway food.

KFC's classic chicken has become extremely popular all across the world.
"Officers noticed a suspicious-looking vehicle travelling on a gravel road and upon seeing the Police car, the vehicle did a u-turn and sped off trying to evade Police," said a police spokesperson. "The vehicle was searched and Police located the cash, alongside empty ounce bags and a large amount of takeaways," they added. The men were arrested and will appear in court at a later date. Further charges may follow, leading to imprisonment for six months or a fine of up to $4,000.
The reason that the men were trying to smuggle in KFC food is that New Zealand is currently in lockdown due to the outbreak of cases of the COVID-19 Delta variant. Most of the outbreaks have been in Auckland, where restaurants are also shut and only essential services are allowed to operate. Citizens have been staying indoors to prevent the further spread of cases.
