While there is no specific diet an asthmatic needs to follow, there are foods that they are advised against, as these may lead to aggravation or lead to a resurfacing of symptoms like wheezing, coughing and difficulty in breathing. When you are exposed to a food allergen, your immune system over-reacts and releases a chemical known as histamine. This release of the chemical can cause the symptoms of an allergic reaction in an asthma patient, leading to an asthma attack. The signs and symptoms of the allergens affecting your body can last from 2-5 minutes to 48 hours.Every individual reacts to various foods differently, but there are certain foods that can trigger an asthmatic attack in this cold weather. Here are some foods suggested by Nutritionist Dr. Simran Saini from Fortis Hospital, which an asthmatic MUST AVOID.
