Mizoram Keeping A Close Watch On Maggi Noodles Recalling, Samples Failed Quality Tests in Uttarakhand

Mizoram joint director (Food and Drugs Administration) of the state health department Lalsawma today said officials were conducting verification of the recalling process of "Maggi" noodles on a daily basis.(Celebrities React to Maggi Noodles Controversy on Twitter)"Our officials have found that those (Maggi noodles packets) dispatched to the remote villages were taken back by the company," Lalsawma told PTI. He said officials were also sent to Assam to seek permission for using the Assam Public Health Laboratory for testing the Maggi instant noodle samples from Mizoram, which does not have its own food testing laboratory.(How Other Instant Noodle Brands Are Using the Maggi Noodles Controversy to Their Advantage)He hoped that Mizoram would soon be able to send samples of Maggi noodles and other food items to the Assam Public Health Laboratory for testing. "The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) had instructed the Nestle company on Friday last to stop manufacturing of Maggi instant noodles and recall all the stocks," Lalsawma said.(States that Have Banned Maggi Noodles: Story So Far)FSSAI had asked all state governments to test samples of Maggi in their respective states and send the results to it after which a concrete decision would be taken, he added.The latest: Sixteen samples of Nestle India's maggi noodles failed quality tests at the Uttarakhand drugs and food testing laboratory, showing more than permissible levels of MSG and lead content. After conclusion of the lab tests at Rudrapur, the report is being sent to Food Secretary Uttarakhand, Chief Medical Superintendent H K Joshi said.The popular snack has already been banned for ninety days in the state after samples sent to Rudrapur laboratory earlier this month showed more than permissible levels of MSG (monosodium glutamate) and lead content.
