The History Behind Mysore Pak

The legend has it that Mysore Pak's evolution goes back to 1935. One day, King Krishna Raja Wodeyar was ready to have his lunch. So Mysore palace's chief chef Madappa, after completing the preparation of all the courses of a royal meal, noticed that one spot on royal thali was vacant. Witnessing that Madappa began experimenting by adding gram flour with ghee and sugar to make a syrup. But by the time, the King was done with his lunch, that experimented dish cooled down to become a cake. While serving it, Madappa was hesitant but he did it anyway. To his surprise, the experiment delighted the King, and while eating it he questioned what it was. The chef nervously named it 'Mysore Paka'. In Kannada, paka means a sweet concoction.
