Mango is undoubtedly one of the most-loved summer fruits. Whether we consume it raw or make it into curries, chutneys or scrumptious desserts - the flavour and joy of eating mango is truly irreplaceable. Recently, we came across the news that the world's most expensive mango, Miyazaki mango, was showcased at a festival in Siliguri. And now, we have learned from reports that Miyazaki mangoes will now be cultivated in Tripura too! Although they are originally from Japan, they will be among the 22 foreign varieties being grown in the Northeastern state.
As per Tripura's Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath, farmers have now begun cultivating mangoes commercially. He revealed this at a recent Mango Diversity Exhibition held in Nagicherra on the outskirts of the capital city. "In Tripura, commercial cultivation of various mango varieties is already underway, particularly in Nagicherra where we have 13 developed Indian varieties and 22 foreign varieties, including Miyazaki, Haribhanga (Yellow Banana, Japanese All Time), and Thai Himsagar," stated Minister Nath as per Northeast Today.

He also said that mangoes are widely consumed across Asia and are rightly called the 'King of Fruits'. Further, Tripura's mango production has risen from previous years and will be promoted further in the coming days, as per India Today Northeast. Tripura has thus, now joined the ranks of West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan in terms of mango production of all varieties including the prestigious and most expensive ones.
Meanwhile, the Miyazaki mango is one of the highest quality and most expensive mango varieties in the world. The skin of this mango is flaming red and is actually shaped like a giant dinosaur egg.
