Train food in India has always divided people. There are some who swear by it while others stay as far away from it as possible. The newly launched range of Vande Bharat Express (VBE) by the Indian Railways aimed to win over the latter camp. Along with top-class seating and other facilities, good quality food was supposed to be one of the USPs of these premium trains. However, it seems that food troubles on trains, even expensive VBEs, remain a real possibility.
Two days after the launch of the Mumbai-Shirdi VBE on February 10, Twitter user Viresh Narkar (@vireshnarkar) revealed his experience aboard this "magnificent" train. In one post, he tagged the railway authorities and criticized them for serving "dusty cornflakes." In the comments, he offered a possible reason: "Dear team, I think there was smoke outside and tiny particles of smoke came in from AC vents and accumulated on the milk. Kindly explore providing alternatives for milk and cornflakes. Hope food quality will improve in few days as per the manager on board." Read the original tweet here:
The Twitter user also provided other suggestions for better cleanliness and privacy aboard the VBE. Other users commented about how they have had similar experiences onboard. The Indian Railways took note of Narkar's complaint within an hour. This is how they replied:
