Pineapple on pizza, anyone? Known as Hawaiian pizza, this dish has garnered a loyal fanbase, thanks to its contrasting flavours — sweet pineapple and savoury ham. Meanwhile, a few argue that fruit does not deserve to be on a pizza. You may love it, you may hate it. But one thing's for sure, you just cannot ignore it. But why are we suddenly talking about pineapple on pizza? Well, a Norwich-based pizzeria is charging customers a princely sum of 100 pounds (Rs 10,548) for a standard Hawaiian pizza. Reason? To deter foodies from ordering this dish.

According to a report by the New York Post, Lupa Pizza has announced its dislike for pineapple pizza loud and clear through a creative culinary stunt. The owner has added a hefty price tag of 100 pounds on the online delivery app Deliveroo. “Yeah, for £100 you can have it. Order the champagne too! Go on you Monster!” reads the cheeky menu description.
Lupa's head chef Quin Jianoran, in a conversation with CNN Travel, said, “I say no to pineapple.”
He added that the Hawaiian pizza is mixed with “Chinese sweet and sour flavours with a traditional Italian product”. Quin aptly called the dish “controversial” because “people literally love it and people hate it.” As for the pizzeria, the chef confirmed that they were just “taking a stance.”
Quin Jianoran continued that while he loves pina colada, pineapple on pizza is something he would “never” have. “I'd rather put a strawberry on one than that tropical menace,” he said.
Echoing a similar sentiment, Lupa's co-owner Francis Woolf said, “I absolutely loathe pineapple on a pizza.”
