Dengue, Chinkungunya Cases Decline as the Weather Becomes Colder
Health authorities have confirmed that the number of dengue and chikungunya cases in the national capital have declined with the sudden dip in temperatures over the past week. The figures of the dengue outbreak this year seem to have surpassed the numbers in the past decades.
Till now about 10,000 chikungunya cases have been recorded with about 1200 dengue cases this month.  Municipal corporation records Last month, about 2000 dengue cases were reported. The number of both the mosquito-borne disease seems to have fallen after the changes in the weather. The dip has also been attributed to regular fogging and anti-larvae sprays conducted extensively through the city.The onset of winters brings an end to the breeding season and menace of mosquitos. There will be less moisture in the air and the coming days will be more dry which makes the environment unsuitable for dengue-causing Aedes mosquito to breed and also halting the growth of the dengue larvae.It has been estimated that about 390 million dengue infections occur worldwide each year. Dengue fever is caused by the bite of an Aedes mosquito infected with a dengue virus. The mosquito becomes infected when it bites a person with dengue virus in their blood and spread the infection when it bites someone else. Chikungunya is also viral mosquito-borne disease that causes fever and severe joint pain.
