The biggest festival for married women - Karwa Chauth - falls during on the event of Krishna Paksha Chaturthi (fourth day after 'Purnima') during the Hindu month of Kartik, as per the lunisolar calendar 'Amanta'. Also known as Karak Chaturthi, Karwa Chauth is observed with a lot of enthusiasm in northern part of India. However, some southern states also celebrate the festival on the same day, which falls in the month of Ashwin as per the regional calendar. Married women follow 'nirjala' fast without food and water from sunrise till moon sighting in the evening. Karwa Chauth 2022: Common Festival Rituals 

Married women observe a strict fast without any food and water for the whole day. They apply henna on hands, wear ethnic attire and consume water and food only after offering prayer to the moon for long life of their husbands. Karwa Chauth coincides with Sankashti Chaturthi, which is a day dedicated to worshipping Lord Ganesha. So, on Karwa Chauth, women pray Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesh for marital bliss. The day of the festival is started at the crack of dawn with sargi - a traditional thali gifted to women by their mothers-in-law. The sargi thali is supposed to be consumed before sunrise.  

How To Prepare Sargi- 

Here are some ritualistic foods that comprise the sargi thaali before fasting during the day. 

1. Mathri:

3. Fruits: 

Since, one is not supposed to drink water during the fasting period, fruits are eaten for sargi to hydrate the body and fill it up with ample nutrients. Banana, apple, papaya, pomegranate - all kinds of fruits can be had before fasting. 

4. Dry Fruits: 

Dry fruits are known to contain healthy fats that energise the body for the whole day. You can add any dry fruit to your thaali to celebrate sargi. 

5. A Filling Meal:
