Watermelon Juice Eases Post-Exercise Muscle Pain
For those who go through rigorous high intensity workout, sore muscles are a common occurrence. They tend to leave you with a good body ache, but one you could do without. A research, published in the American Chemical Society's 'Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry', suggests watermelon juice to be an effective and delicious cure for sore muscles.
According to the study, this relief can be attributed to an amino acid called L-citrulline which helps relieve post-workout muscle soreness. Researchers monitored seven athletes after intense exercise on different days. Athletes were given natural watermelon juice, watermelon juice enriched in L-citrulline or a placebo drink before their workouts. It was reported that athletes reported less muscle soreness on days they drank natural watermelon juice. Researchers conducting the study said that the L-citrulline in the natural watermelon juice seemed to be more effective in helping sore muscles. Recipe: Watermelon Juice
