How to tackle Coronavirus? It has sent every mind into a tizzy right now and health experts are trying their best to find a solution. Every day, we get to hear of new discoveries and claims by researchers on prospective ways to handle Coronavirus. Here's yet another fascinating revelation made by a German study that has claimed to find some foods carrying the potential to kill the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Is it true? We don't know yet but it piqued our curiosity to find out more.
All respiratory viruses attack through nose and throat, and containing them in the airways may prevent them from spreading further. A research by the Institute of Molecular Virology, Ulm University Medical Center, Technische Universitat Dresden and CogniVerde GmbH found that some fruits and herbs could potentially fight and stave off the virus.

Here are the foods that were found to be effective against COVID-19 virus:
1. Green Tea
Few previous studies have also voiced the benefits of drinking green tea to combat viruses. Herbal teas are known to bring many health benefits including protecting us from seasonal flus.
2. Pomegranate
Pomegranate or anar is full of antioxidants and may fight inflammation effectively. If not for Coronavirus, drinking pomegranate juice regularly is a good habit to achieve overall sound health.
3. Cranberry
Cranberry is super rich in vitamin C, which can help boost immunity in great measures. Cranberry can be juiced or eaten raw, or included in dessert recipes.
4. Chokeberry
Chokeberry is another kind of berry fruit (Aronia berry), which is round in shape and blackish in colour, and looks almost like blueberry. Chokeberry juice was, in fact, found most effective in combating COVID-19 virus during the study.

For the study, these foods and herbs were combined and incubated with various viruses including SARS-CoV-2 to detect infectivity. It was seen that these foods were successful in preventing the spread of the infection in cells.
The scientists observed that chokeberry juice inactivated around 97 per cent of the SARS-CoV-2 after 5 minutes, and cranberry juice, pomegranate juice and green tea inactivated around 80 per cent of the virus.
The findings of the study were published on the preprint server bioRxiv, which is not peer-reviewed yet.
