In a recent development on the Bournvita row, the 'health drink' company has reduced the quantity of added sugar by 14.4 percent. A health influencer named Revant Himatsingka, on April 1, posted a video on his Instagram page @foodpharmer claiming that 100gm of Bournvita contains 50 g of sugar. The video in no time went viral, sparking immense criticism for Bournvita. That's not all. Reportedly, Revant Himatsingka was sent a legal notice, asking to remove the video from social media on the grounds of being 'unscientific'. Click here for the detailed news.

Almost eight months after the row, Bournvita has slashed the sugar content in the drink, reportedly making it healthier. The influencer recently took to Instagram to share another video, calling this incident a "big win".

''BIG WIN! Probably the first time in history that an INSTAGRAM REEL led to a food giant reducing its sugar content! 1 video resulted in a 15% reduction in sugar. Imagine if all Indians started reading food labels. Companies wouldn't dare falsely market themselves,'' he wrote while sharing the video.

In the video, the influencer went on to explain that his fight was not against Bournvita. It is against every company which sells junk food and "markets itself healthy". He added, "1 company changing its sugar content, will result in a chain reaction, and every company will be slightly more careful now!"

For the unversed, previously Bournvita contained 37.4 grams of added sugar per 100 grams of powder. However, the new packaging shows that it has sugar content of 32.2 grams per 100 grams.
