If there's one drink that is most popularly associated with India, it's chai. Indians are famous for their passion for this brew. It has become a symbol of national pride. Therefore, it is no surprise that any claims or theories about masala chai would take the internet by storm. Recently an Instagram reel by a foreign vlogger grabbed many eyeballs online. In the now-viral video, the person makes a spoof about the 'real' source of this beloved Indian tea. The video opens with the Instagram user speaking to the camera at an outdoor location. He is surrounded by snow-capped mountains.

He says, "I drove hundreds of kilometres to the roof of India, Himachal Pradesh, to find only one thing, and that is the source of Masala chai". He moves the camera to show the muddy tracks on the ground. He continues, "And look at this. You can see that it flows down. You can see that the milk is already added by the cows in the mountains. Litres and litres of masala chai." He shows himself 'tasting' the chai, but it is unclear whether he actually does. He speaks about the flavours of the drink, saying, "Cloves, cinnamon, ginger... flowing to the whole of India. It's incredible." Watch the complete viral video below:

The reel has received 930K views so far. Some Instagram users have found the spoof offensive, and have reacted with criticism. Others have resorted to sarcastic remarks. Check out the comments below:
