Winter snacking in India is all about moongphali, rewari and chikki (gajak). Those with a sweet tooth just can't stop munching on the sweet and crunchy delight of chikki. Made with jaggery, peanuts, and sometimes, fennel seeds, chikki is found in every nook and cranny of the country this time around. But what if your favourite sweet chikki is turned spicy and masaledaar? We were as baffled as you must be now when we saw a video of a street vendor selling chaat made with chikki!

An Instagram page called 'surti_lalo' posted a video of this bizarre creation and called it masala chikki chaat. The video shows a street vendor making the chikki chaat and it left us speechless.

The vendor starts off by placing broken chikki pieces on foil paper placed neatly on a quarter plate as the base of the chaat. Then he tops it with green chutney, chopped green onions, sev and crushed cornflakes. He sprinkles some lime juice and rounds it up with chaat masala, and serves it.

The chaat sure looks good but left us wondering about its taste with the strange food combination of sweet chikki and spicy chutneys and masala. Viewers were not happy either. Check out some of the comments posted on the video post: 

"What is happening in the food zone? Chikki has to be sweet... what is the logic to make bhel or chaat of it? Please respect food authenticity."
