According to a survey by popular food delivery app, biryani was the most ordered food of the year gone by, and predictably so. Delivery outlets like Biryani By Kilo, Behrouz and Biryani Blues are bringing a range of biryanis to our doorstep. Biryani by kilo has launched its first dine-in outlet in Gurgaon, along with another delivery outlet (its fifth in the sub-city). The brand is also expanding in Mumbai, a new outlet just opened in Lower Parel. Here are our thoughts on some of the best-sellers of BBK.

We ordered the Hyderabadi mutton biryani. The mutton steeped in masalas was rich and tender, the robust masalas also flavour the rice, making this biryani, one spicy unit. The Kolkata biryani, is much lighter in terms of spices, but in no way is it less flavourful. There is this delightful peppery after-taste that is just so impressive. And did we tell you this special biryani, chicken or mutton also comes with added addition of yummy boiled potato and boiled eggs. The Lucknowi chicken biryani was also a very smooth preparation, you could tell that the chicken is well marinated as it was flavourful to the core. The colour of the rice was a delightful mix of orange and white. All the biryanis were made with top-quality, long-grain basmati rice that elevated the taste of the biryanis. The biryanis come with a side of raita and salan. Although the portion may prove less if you are used to having a lot of raita with your biryani. You can order more if you want. We also tried the non-veg snack platter too. There are a total of four items in this platter. Galouti kebabs, cheese chicken or jamuni tikkas, chicken seekh kebabs and tawa fish. The platter also comes with refreshingly tangy adraki-imli lemonade and a selection of chutneys. The platter is suitable for 2-3 people.
