  • Here are 10 of the best standalone eateries in Indiranagar

If there's a contest for Bengaluru's hottest F&B zone, there's a good chance Indiranagar might emerge victorious. 12th Main road alone probably has more dining options than any other single high street in India. From grab-and-go outlets to quick-serve South Indian restaurants and a plethora of exotic Indian and International options, Indira Nagar has it all. Our list is by no means exhaustive but certainly captures the 'flavour' of Indira Nagar's vibrant dining scene.

Here Are 10 Best Standalone Restaurants In Indiranagar, Bengaluru:

1. Phobidden Fruit, Vietnamese Kitchen, 12th Main Road

Phobidden Fruit has remained one of our favourite Asian restaurants even as newer concepts and restaurants continue to dot Indira Nagar. It's proof that you don't need to be within the confines of a luxury hotel to deliver an authentic international dining experience. It's a cosy setting, especially at dinner; the restaurant gets its Pho - Vietnam's best-known broth, absolutely right. Other must try dishes include the banh xeo (sizzling pancake), and banh cuon (rice rolls).

2. Fatty Bao, 12th Main Road

This might now be a brand that now enjoys national recognition but the Fatty Bao story started on 12th Main Road. Fatty Bao is one of the pioneers of the gastropub concept in India - a trend that has seen the lines between a lounge bar and a fine dining restaurant blur. The interiors of this high-energy Asian gastropub, border on quirky. The menu has room for innovative Asian cocktails, small plates, Ramens and curries.

3. Sarposh - Restaurant and Tea Room, 80 feet road

Sarposh allows you to make a trip to Kashmir without leaving Indira Nagar. It's one of the finest regional cuisine restaurants in Bengaluru. Food is served on a trami (a large copper platter) that is usually covered with a lid called the Sarposh (hence the name of the restaurant). We'd recommend the traditional Kashmiri style community seating option here and dishes like the Gushtaba mutton, the dum aloo and the Zafaran firin.

4. Sly Granny - The Community House, 12th Main Road

It's not just the name; the back story is equally fascinating - a bar allegedly inherited by an American desi from his grandmother who had quite a few secrets of her own. This one's more than just a good story. We dig the interiors that include a speakeasy section. Their cocktails are quirky and the taps style plates - try the Spanish-style prawns and baked brie, are scrumptious.

5. Brik Oven - 80 feet Road

Still our favourite pizzeria in Bengaluru. Brik Oven first debuted on Church Street, but it's the Indira Nagar outlet with its chic vibe that has our vote. Their fiery Diavola where birds eye chilli and jalapeno combine with a classic pepperoni is a crowd favourite but we think their old school Margherita hits the spot too. Wash it all down with one of their decadent shakes - try the Nutella Mini Freak Shake for size.

6. Toit, 100 feet Road

Toit is probably the OG of Bengaluru's modern craft brewery wave. Toit's eclectic home-brewed beers made it an early favourite with beer nerds. The finger-friendly small plates have stayed in the zone since the 2010s. Toit's multiple levels also include a 'pet-friendly' outdoor beer garden. The relaxed vibe makes it a perfect hang out with your BFFs for an extended weekend lunch or a fun evening.

7. Sanchez Taqueria and Cantina, 12th Main Road

It's almost like a slice of Mexico in Indiranagar. The interiors feature raw brick walls accentuated with vibrant Mexican motifs. The tacos keep rolling out of the taqueria aim to replicate a streetside taco cart in Mexico City. Their margaritas are a big draw but it's their signature dessert - dark chocolate guacamole with avocado, that we'll be back for.

8. The Navu Project, Bangalore International Centre, Domlur

Operating out of the cafe at Bangalore International Centre that's tucked away in a cosy nook; we love their outdoor dining section. It's probably Bengaluru's version of India Habitat Centre, Delhi. At a time when many restaurants are focusing on what's good for the 'gram' it was great to see this space put the spotlight on the ingredients and flavours. Their current menu (refreshed periodically) is modern European.

9. Secret Story, 12th Main Road

A resto-bar with a very relaxed, lounge vibe and a service team that's switched on. Secret Story is full of quirky corners but it's their ultra-tall bar (they claim that's it's the tallest in town) that is totally Instagrammable. Their signature cocktails are spot-on. Do try the South African-style Bunny Chao and their massive Tiramisu that's good for three.

10. Chianti, 12th Main Road

This stand-alone restaurant brand has expanded to become a chain, it's the Indira Nagar location that's our pick. Chianti offers a choice of indoor and alfresco seating with a cosy ambience replete with wooden flooring. Popular signatures include the Margherita pizza, crostini and chicken breast stuffed with mozzarella, asparagus, and sage. Do stay for dessert and order the panna cotta.
