Actors are known to be extremely committed to certain roles they play. They are sometimes ready to undergo any amount of training or sacrifices if it allows them to portray a character better. And Cillian Murphy seems to be no different. The actor plays the eponymous protagonist in director Christopher Nolan's much-awaited 'Oppenheimer.' To prepare for his role, Murphy put in a lot of effort in terms of not only research but also physical training. In a recent interview, his co-star Emily Blunt revealed the extent to which he had to restrict his diet in order to lose weight.

Blunt told ExtraTV that Cillian "had such a monumental undertaking. And he could only eat, like, an almond every day. He was so emaciated." Earlier, in an interview with The New York Times in May 2023, Murphy himself had shed some light on what he was aiming for. He told NYT, "I love acting with my body, and Oppenheimer had a very distinct physicality and silhouette, which I wanted to get right. I had to lose quite a bit of weight, and we worked with the costume and tailoring; he was very slim, almost emaciated, and existed on martinis and cigarettes."

Neither the actor's actual diet nor the exact extent of his weight loss for the film has been revealed. But in an interview with The Guardian, Murphy stated that he doesn't "advise" such "unhealthy competition" with oneself. Talking about the filming process, he further explained, "I was running on crazy energy; I went over a threshold to where I was not worrying about food or anything."
'Oppenheimer' was released in cinemas yesterday, 21 July 2023. To know more about the food-themed buzz surrounding the movie, as well as its box office clash with Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie,' click here.
